#UseYourVoice - Political Toolkit

Politics is such an incriminating word in today's society. When you hear the word politics, what is the first thing to comes to mind? corruption? lies? Either way, with a snap election short coming, it is of the up most importance that we all come together and have our say in who runs our country.

I was lucky enough to be able to be a part in the #UseYourVoice event on the 15th, being a part of the panel and also being a part of the video put together to outline some of the issues surrounding why young people don't use their vote. It is estimated that around less than 50% of young people (aged 18-24) voted in the last general election in 2015. Now think of how many voices and opinions have been ignored because of this.

In the panel event we discussed a lot of issues which may cause the young people of today to disconnect so much from politics, and I for one, being a young person myself can agree with these. One of the main repetitive factors that came up was the language used within the political world is a lot more confusing in an attempt to sway people away from voting and creating the feeling of doubt in the mind. The toolkit which was put together by a group of very lovely people outlines a lot of this for everyone.

Now don't be fooled, the toolkit isn't specifically for young people, it is for everyone so that we all can understand the jargon that they throw at us. It also gives us the vital information, from a non biased POV, on different questions such as "Can I become an MP?" or "How can I run my own party?" all of this in an easy and FREE document for you all to make use of!

And lastly I just wanted to mention that time is running out to register to vote, closing date is on the 22nd May, so make sure you sign up now! Its super easy just follow this link and you will get there https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and also check out the toolkit here with all the information you need about political terminology and the FAQs you may forget to ask https://www.useyourvoiceuk.org/learn/

Big thank you to everyone who came on the 15th for making the event such a success and make sure to tweet out or Instagram with the #UseYourVoice to get the message out there! Make sure our country is well informed! We were given a voice so let's use it!
